This was the first test of the two water walls composited onto an actual Egyptian background plate. The scene was ultimately rejected because the optical deparment at Paramount Studios could not properly blend the individual water wall segments convincingly.
The actor on the chariot in the left corner is a stand in for Yul Brynner. Brynner was later photographed against a blue screen and composited over subsequent shots of the same vantage point.
