1958-04-02 in Plymouth

One PA Reuter photograph titled 'Boats are the new stars of the Grand Theatre.' Caption on back reads: Stars like Charlie Chaplin and Gracie Fields have long ago left the Grand Theatre at Plymouth and half-built boats now occupy the stalls where audiences were once held enthralled by the acting of Sir Henry Irving. The theatre, blitzed in 1943, is now just an empty shell but, after being a furniture store for a time, it has come back to life as a dollar-earning boat yeard. Twenty men are working full pressure building 17ft. sailing cruisers, most of which are sent to America.
