Coin, gold. Noble of Edward III. Obv. EDWARD · DEI GRA ·REX · ANGL.Z.FRANC · D HYB. King crowned, standing facing in ship, holding sword and shield ; two ropes from stern and three from prow of vessel. Rev. + IHC AVTEM · TRANCIENS · P. MEDIVM · ILLORVM · IBAT. Within a tressure of eight arches having a trefoil in each spandril, a floriated cross with lis at end of each limb and the letter E within an ornamented compartyment in the centre ; in each angle of the cross a lion passant guardant with crown above. Wt. 108.1 grains (7 grams). Bequeathed by Miss M. E. Waldo-Sibthorp. V&A no. 1588-1902.
