A small archive of photographs of the career of the donor's father, Robert Rowley, as a projectionist during his time in the RAF between 1942 and 1946. Nine photographs in total.

ENSA (Entertainments National Service Association) began film screenings for troops in October 1939, initially in garrison towns and in mobile cinemas for troops in more remote locations. They deployed cinema as a welfare tool, providing escapism for military personnel, as well as using it as an educational or training method. Robert Rowley joined the RAF in 1941 and as an aircraft engine fitter. His combination of engineering know how and previous experience helping out at the Empire Cinema in Wombwell, South Yorkshire, meant he was soon given the task of running cinemas at various RAF bases, and he went he went on to work in ABC Cinema management for the rest of his career after leaving the RAF.
