VHS videotape of "Class 91 and Mallard" film

Made:
1988

VHS videotape titled "Class 91 and Mallard". This video contains images of the event organised on 3 July 1988 for the 50th anniversary of the Mallard’s record breaking run in 1938 (Mallard 88). The first Class 91 locomotive was on display at Doncaster station, where Mallard took the head of the special train set up for the event, which had set off from London Kings Cross pulled by the Class 89 electric locomotive. Mallard pulled the special train from Doncaster to Scarborough.

This videotape was donated during the course of the Britain’s Railways All Change (BRAC) oral history project. BRAC was set-up to cover gaps in documenting the railway privatisation process in the United Kingdom, between 1994 and 1997, when the government-owned British Rail was dismantled into over 100 privately-owned companies.
