Home-made lockdown cinema for laptop
- Made:
- January 2021 in London
A home-made 'lockdown cinema', designed to sit over a laptop to produce the illustion of cinema attendance. Made by Tom Kingsley, London, January 2021 and first demonstrated on his Twitter feed.
During the Covid 19 lockdown of early 2021, television and film director, Tom Kingsley made a replica of the inside of a cinema, complete with seating and proscenium arch to fit over his laptop, with a space for his laptop screen to become the cinema screen. He then put a short video onto Twitter (later X) of him placing the cinema in position whilst playing the opening sequence from '2001: A Space Odyssey' with the caption ‘it’s not exactly the big screen experience but at least it gives some sense of occasion’. His pet cat Zuul, then proceeded to invade the cinema and had to be quickly removed.
As Tom also explains he did this to replicate the big screen experience, which is something over the last several months of lockdown has been largely unavailable to people in the UK (and around the world).
