One photograph of Mr. C. Johnston, his daughter, and his son examining the inscription on a bell that is scheduled to ship to Connecticut, USA, from Southampton, titled 'Croydon bells will peal in Connecticut'. Caption on back reads: 'A 36-bell carillon, the largest bell weighing over two tons and the smallest about 21 pounds, started its journey to Stamford, Connecticut, when it was loaded aboard the United States liner 'America' at Southampton. The carillon, made by the Croydon (Surrey) bell-founders Gillett and Johnston, is a gift from the Nestle Company to the Church of Stamford in recorgnition of the kindness shown by the people of the town to employees of the firm who were evacuated there from Switzerland during the War. The 36 bells represent three chromatic octaves from low C to high C. Twenty-two of them, representing the 22 Cantons of Switzerland, each has the shield of a Canton cast upon it'.
