Daily Herald Photograph: Female steeplejack

One photograph of a female steeplejack applying makeup while sitting on top of a chimney. Caption on back reads: 'Miss Giselle Leopold, a Polish girl with aspirations for fame as a 'Steeplejill6', brings well-tried nerves to her new profession. Before the war Miss Leopold was a glider pilot, and made several parachute jumps. Now she tries something comparatively sedate. She is one of 1500 people who answered an advertisment from a firm of steeplejacks at Winchmore Hill for 'well educated young men who are willing to take off their coats and learn an exciting trade'. PICTURE SHOWS. Eternal woman! It needs a steady hand to apply a lipstick - especially at the top of a chimney. But Giselle Leopold, pictured during a trail climb at Winchmore Hill today (Wednesday) finds her perch among the clouds just the place'.
