One photograph titled 'Oldest Tin of Food in the World'. Full caption on back. The photograph shows Mrs. Anne Watt preparing the tin for opening at the British Food Manufacturing Industries Research Association Laboratories. The tin, thought to contain plum pudding, was made in 1823 by Messrs. Donkin, Hall and Gamble. It was sent to the laboratory by Mrs. Macneel-Caird, a descendant of Captain Sir John Ross, who found the tin during his voyage on HMS Victory in 1829 whilst searching for the North West passage. The tin had been discarded by HMS Fury which sailed the same mission in 1824.
