One photograph two workers scraping calf hides titled 'Making drumheads for the army'. Caption on back reads: 'Two processes in the art of making drum heads. A man is seen about to stretch a skin over a frame for drying - and on the right another is seen shaving a dried skin with a fine knife - he is the man who makes or destroys a skin - he will shave it to the right thickness and smoothness - and it is then vellum, ready to be cut up as drumheads. Mr Loosley and three men do the whole job between them'.
