Daily Herald Illustration: Whaling

One Illustration titled ‘Whale Fishery’ showing a whaling scene with English whale hunters near Greenland. A harpooner takes aim at a whale from a rowboat in front of icebergs. Back of the image has lots of annotations including ‘Gooch’ which may be a reference to the artist Thomas Gooch (1750 – 1802). Caption on the front of the image says the illustration was first published between 1850 – 1860 but a stamp on the back says the image was also published in 1936.
