One photograph titled ‘Ventnor tomatoes’ showing people harvesting tomatoes. Caption on the back is partly obscured but describes how the supply of tomatoes from the Channel Islands to the mainland ceased during German occupation so from 1942, the Ventnor Urban District Council in the Isle of Wight cultivated the growing of tomatoes outdoors for export. A generous local man Mr. T.S. Perry provided the initial cost for the scheme and the first year made a profit of £1,960.
