Bamforth and Company and York and Son were the two primary producers of life model lantern slides in the UK during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Life model slides are photographic slides employing costumed models posed in scenes of locations to illustrate narrativees, songs and other texts. Typical subjects included temperance tales of alcoholism and other social vices, popular songs, comic subjects and religious services interspersed with hymns. Bradford company Riley Brothers primarily made magic lantern projectors, but also held a lending library of slides. This collection is the John Jones Collection.
