She describes the cold, her 'little stove' being useful, being busy, she asks to be sent a photo of a wedding, describes not being granted leave "my leave is off". British ambulance trains operated both in the UK and overseas to evacuate military casualties to safety from the frontlines during the First World War. They could carry up to 500 patients and were staffed by medical officers (doctors), male orderlies and usually three or four nurses. This postcard could have been sent during the Second Battle of the Somme which took place between July and November 1918, this would account for how busy the nurse was at this time.
