NCR Corporation

Sample of fabric and wood from the original Wright Brothers 1903 aircraft, known as the 'Wright Flyer', in plaque with a facsimile authentication letter from Orville Wright.

A small number of these plaques were put together by the NCR corporation who then sent them out on behalf of Orville Wright (who provided the fabric and wood) as a reward for returning parts of the Wright Brother's 1905 Flyer in 1948. These parts were required so that the flyer could be reconstructed for display at Carillon Park in Dayton, Ohio, USA. The individuals who had obtained pieces of the 1905 flyer are referred to as ‘souvenir hunters’.

The enclosed letter is a facscimile of Orville Wright's draft letter to the souvenir hunters, but unfortunately he passed away before completing the letter and sending out these rewards so a facsimile was enclosed instead.
