Riley Brothers was founded c. 1887 and mainly supplied rather than manufactured lanterns, lantern slides and assocaited equipment. It was an extension of the already exsiting textile business in Bradford run by Joseph Riley, designed to be run by his sons, Herbert and William. However, Riley Brothers did produce some lantern slide sets, including life model slides, in addition to operating a successful lantern slide hire business.
They also manufacured an early example of film equipment, The Kineoptoscope, a 35mm projector designed by Cecil Wray (1866-1944) of Bradford in 1987.
