Diesel-electric locomotive, British Railways, Co-Co. Deltic No 55002 "Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry", built by Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows in 1961, withdrawn 1982.

King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry is a British Railways Class 55 “Deltic” locomotive, built at Vulcan Foundry in 1961. The BR Class 55s were designed for high-speed express passenger services on the East Coast Main Line, and they dominated this service until the introduction of the InterCity 125 HSTs. KOYLI was based at Gateshead Depot and named at a ceremony held at York station in 1963.

When it was withdrawn from service the NRM claimed 55002 KOYLI, which had been earmarked earlier because of its Yorkshire regimental association. For its final thirteen months in service it had been painted in its original colours with the aid of a grant from the Friends of the National Railway Museum.
