Letter inviting for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment and leaflet dated 15 March 2021 including a leaflet 'COVID-19 vaccination: A guide for adults' and an invite to participate in the MHRA monitoring of vaccines

The roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine in the United Kingdom is based on priority groups. In December 2020, COVID-19 vaccines were first offered to residents in care homes for older adults and their carers, people aged over 80, and frontline health and social care workers. The remaining population is offered the vaccine according to age and existing health conditions that make them more susceptible to COVID-19. Age is one of the biggest factors of dying from COVID-19.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advise on the priority list and the length between doses (between 3 and twelve weeks). When it was a person’s turn to be called for a vaccine they received a letter, asking them to book their appointments either online or by telephone. Some people also received a text message. When eligible, people could also book directly with the NHS’s website. This example comes with an invitation to participate in the Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory study to help monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines and a guide to vaccination.
