Reeddi Capsule, portable battery powered by solar energy, made by Reeddi, designed in Canada, manufactured in Asia for use in Nigeria, 2021.
This Reeddi capsule is a portable solar powered battery that people can rent to charge their electronic devices. The object is representative of the type used by both individuals and businesses in Nigeria – by November 2021, 600 households and businesses in Lagos were using Reeddi capsules every month to access sustainable and clean energy at an affordable price. The capsule is a lithium ion battery charged at local solar facilities and rented at corner stores for a fee of 50 cents a day. The individual capsule is too expensive for most people to buy outright (at a cost of 361.88 US dollars), and so the rental model is part of the solution.
