In the United States, the Colorado & Southern railway was created in 1898 by consolidating several bankrupt railroad companies. The railway spread out through 6 states: Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. It operated until 1981, when it was incorporated into the Burlington Northern Railroad (now BNSF Railway Company), as part of which, some of the tracks of the former Colorado & Southern railway are still in service today.
