White t-shirt with a rainbow with the words 'Thank you' and #Clap For Our Carers, designed and sold by Kindred, made in India, 2020

Launched in March 2020, cash back and charity donation app Kindred partnered with the social movement 'Clap for Our Carers’ to create a fund-raising t-shirt. Together they raised £500,000 for NHS Charities Together. Started by Annemarie Plas, every Thursday at 8pm between 26 March and 28 May 2020, many people took part in showing their appreciation and support for NHS and key workers during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Kindred founder, Aaron Simpson and Leanne, his wife, came up with the t-shirt design featuring a rainbow. During the first lockdown in England, beginning on 23 March 2020, rainbows became symbols of hope. Many children and young people drew pictures and made crafts to display in the windows of their homes. Some people chose to display rainbow flags outside their homes to show their support for the NHS and key workers. The rainbow flag was designed by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978 as a symbol of LBGTQ+ pride and community and continues to be so.
