This radio set was used on the 1953 British expedition to Everest led by Sir John Hunt. At 11.30 am on 29th May 1953, Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary succeeded in reaching the summit of Everest, at 29,028 ft (8848m) the highest mountain on Earth.
