Itinerary sheets for Great Eastern Railway Outing, 1911

Two itinerary sheets for Great Eastern Railway Mineral Office (London), 10th Annual Outing to Felixstowe via Ipswich and the Orwell. Highly decorated, hand drawn and photostatted, 20 May 1911.

The railways made it much easier to travel for work or leisure.

These leaflets from the early twentieth century show an annual leisure event put on for the workers in the Great Eastern Railway Mineral Office. They were made by hand and copied to be distributed among the workers. The level of detail and care in the leaflets suggest this was a much anticipated event in the workers' year.

The cover shows depictions of a steam engine, a ship and St Felix. The back depicts gravestones with the names of previous outing destinations carved into them. Inside there is a timetable of scheduled events written in pseudo-Medieval language. A menu for the planned lunch at the hotel and dinner on the train are included.
