The case includes a handwritten label with Hack’s surname, employment number (178262) and the date of presentation (23/05/1945). Metropolitan Vickers was a pioneer in British turbine jet engines. The F.2 axial flow turbojet engine, an early turbojet engine and the first British design to be based on an axial flow compressor, was initiated by the Ministry of Aircraft Production in 1941. Though the principles of turbojet propulsion were not developed in Manchester, Manchester company Metropolitan Vickers were among the first companies turning these ideas into a reality.
