A steadicam is a camera that can be worn on a person's body, but uses stabilisers to make sure the camera footage is smooth. A steadicam system is usually made up of a vest that is worn by the user, which connects to an arm that holds a sled, on which the camera sits. Steadicams were introduced in the 1970s and became popular for allowing a camera operator to get polished shots while also being able to move more freely than a fixed camera. Steadicam systems have been used in making films, sports events, and music performances such as The Eurovision Song Contest, where their ability to move in and around singers and dancers have made them a common feature in performances.
