Owen Ashmore was active as an industrial archaeologist for more than 30 years in Lancashire and Cheshire. He taught on, and later directed, the Local History Diploma programme of the University of Manchester Extra Mural Department. He was also a founder member of the Manchester Industrial Archaeology Society. Ashmore published three books on the region, a further book entitled 'The Development of Power in Britain' and a number of monographs.
