World Energy Council

The World Energy Council is a non-governmental and non-commercial network of energy leaders, pioneers and practitioners. Its mission is "To promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all people". The idea for the foundation of the Council came from Daniel Dunlop, who wanted to gather experts from around the world to discuss current and future energy issues. In 1923 he organised national committees, who organised and held the first World Power Conference in 1924. The meeting was a success and the participants decided to establish a permanent organisation called World Power Conference. In 1968 the name was changed to World Energy Conference, and in 1989 it became the World Energy Council.

Today, the World Energy Council has almost 100 national member committees and its member list includes governments, businesses and expert organisations. The World Energy Congress, held over 20 times since the organisation’s founding, is the world’s premier energy gathering.
