Frederick Downer was a British photographer, active between 1880 and the early 20th century. In 1862 Downer opened a studio at the back of his father's shop where customers could commission portraits in oil, charcoal or as carte de visite photographs. In 1870 Downer exhibited at the Royal Photographic Society exhibition. An advertisement of 1894 promotes Downer as an 'Art Photographer, Designer and Photo Engraver.'
