John Chillingworth 1928 - 2025

John Chillingworth was born in London on 18th January 1928 and served as an Army photographer during the Second World War. He worked for 'Picture Post’ from 1949-1956, producing over 400 photo-essays for the magazine. The Getty Images' Hulton Archive holds four hundred picture essays from his days with Picture Post, which used narrative photography to inform, entertain and influence the conscience of its readers. After 1956, Chillingworth concentrated on journalism and continued to take photographs on a freelance basis. He ran his own management consultancy from the 1970s. He was an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and passed away on 6th April 2025, aged 97 years.
