In 1904, Houghton's Limited formed from George Houghton & Son. In 1915, Houghton's Limited merged with W. Butcher and Sons Ltd., to become Houghton-Butcher Manufacturing Co. Ltd., but each company used their individual names for selling purposes. In 1930 Ensign Ltd. became the sales wing of the company
