1906 - Lord Mayor of London, opening the Old Bailey, entertaining monarchs of Norway and Denmark, and Prince Fushimi of Japan. As lord mayor - founded Lord Mayor's Little Cripples' Fund. Obtained Princess Louise Military Hospital, Alton, Hampshire, during the Boer War, establishing Lord Mayor Treloar Cripples' Hospital and College.

1919 - founded seaside branch of hospital at Hayling Island.
