Worked for World's Graphic Press; after First World War made his first photographic scoop of a Zeppelin on fire; joined the Daily Sketch in 1912 until 1929; leading photographer at Daily Herald, taken over by Odhams Press in 1928; became chief photographer at the Weekly Illustrated; spent the war in the Middle East as a British war correspondent; returned to Odhams Press after the war; joined the Daily Mail in 1953 before retiring in 1959.
