born in:
Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom

Murphy Radio Ltd was founded during 1929 by Frank Murphy and E.J. Power as a manufacturer of home radio sets. Their factories were based in Welwyn Garden City, England. The company designed and built sets for British Forces use, and after the war, for the Navy. In later years the company became known for producing televisions. Frank Murphy left the company and founded another company, FM Radio, in 1937. Murphy Radio Ltd was amalgamated with Bush Radio in 1962. The name 'Murphy' has survived as a licensee of far-eastern electronics goods.

The company name enjoyed a resurgence in 2012 in India due to the film "Barfi!", and a Murphy radio also appeared in the 2012 film, "Life of Pi".
