Thomas Humphreys was a clockmaker from Barnard Castle in County Durham. He was a successful clockmaker throughout the late 18th century and into the 19th century, and his clocks were held in high regard. It is said that one of his clocks inspired Charles Dickens to use the title "Master Humphrey's Clock" for one of his works. Humphreys lived from 1787-1868, but a number of his descendants continued his clockmaking business throughout the 19th century. His clocks could be found across railway stations in the North of England.
