Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was born in 1900, married King George VI in 1923, and became Queen Consort in 1936 following the abdication of her brother-in-law, King Edward VIII. She was Queen Consort until 1952 on the death of her husband, George VI. Following this, she became known as Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother to distinguish her from her daughter, Elizabeth II. She died at the Royal Lodge in Windsor in 2002.
