1960-1961 - was Harkness Fellow at Harvard Medical School. 1965-1968 - Professor of Surgery at Cambridge University. 1968 - performed the first liver transplant operation in Europe. 1974 - elected to the Royal Society. 1986 - knighted. 1987 - performed the world's first liver, heart, and lung transplant.
