1868- Thomas Ismay of the National Line purchased the flag and trade-name of the original White Star Line and founds the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company. 1871- White Star begins operating its Oceanic class of ships between New York and Liverpool. 1899- the Oceanic (II) commissioned. 1902- the White Star Line absorbed into the International Mercantile Marine (IMM) Company, an American shipping conglomerate. 1926- IMM sells the White Star Line to the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company for £7 million. 1931- Royal Mail Steam Packet Company consolidated into Royal Mail Lines (unclear whether the name White Star Line stops being used). 1965- Furness Withy & Co buy Royal Mail Lines (RML). 1970s- RML sold to Hong Kong ship owner C.Y.
