1870 - John Marston (1836-1918) purchased a japanning works in Wolverhampton; 1887 - began production of 'The Sunbeam' bicycle; 1888 - Sunbeam name registered; 1898 - John Marston purchased factory in Villiers Street and set up a new company called the Villiers Cycle Components Company to make pedals and cycle components for Sunbeam, with John's son Charles Marston in charge
