1811 - Sharp, Greenleaves & Co had premises in New York Street with a Warehouse at Oxford Street Wharf;

c.1822 - Brothers Sharp offer Roberts a partnership and the firm of Sharp, Roberts & Company, Engineers, Globe Works, Faulkner Street came into being;

1825 - Roberts invented the self-acting spinning mule;

1833 - the company's first locomotive was built for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway;

1843 - Richard Roberts left and the firm became Sharp Bros;

1852 - senior partner, John Sharp, retired and was replaced by Charles Patrick Stewart, the name of the company then changed to Sharp Stewart and Company.

1888 - company moved to Glasgow and took over Walter Neilson's Clyde Locomotive Company in Springburn, renaming it the Atlas Works after the Manchester premises.

1903 - Sharp, Stewart amalgamated with the Glasgow firms Neilson, Reid and Co and Dübs and Co to form the North British Locomotive Company, having built over 5000 engines
