Studied under S Aubin. When the French Revolution broke out, he became president of the Ward of St, Jacques and secretary to the Jacobin Club. For two years he was an exile in Switzerland. He published 'The Costumes of the People, Ancient and Modern' in Venice after leaving Paris in 1794. He was blind when he died.
