1793 - became member of the Company of Surgeons, and went with Forster to France in Lord Moira's expedition. Founded and edited the Journal of Morbid Anatomy, Ophthalmic Medicine, and Pharmaceutical Analysis, which, although it appeared in only one issue, is regarded as the first ophthalmic periodical.
