1926 - Byrd and Floyd Bennett made the world's first flight over the North Pole. 1928 - Byrd led an exploring expedition to Antarctica, which was the first of its kind to utilize the aeroplane, aerial camera, snowmobile and massive communications resources. Byrd was also the first to use aeroplanes for ground surveys of the Antarctic.
