1949 - Takachiho Optical Co., Ltd. changed its name to the Olympus Optical Co., Ltd.,

1959 - Olympus establishes itself as a world-class camera manufacturer with the PEN models launched in 1959. The half-frame format, allowing 72 pictures of 18 × 24 mm format on a standard 36 exposure roll of film, made the PEN cameras compact and portable for their time. In 2003, the company changed again, to Olympus Corporation, to unify the corporate name and the well-known brand.
