Report titled: "A Forward Look at Synchrotron Radiation Research in the UK."

A volume containing Professor Munro's notes relating to synchrotron radiation experiments conducted by Manchester University, using NINA. Includes graphs showing results, and diagrams of equipment set-up. Also contains correspondence and copies of the Daresbury Nuclear Physics Laboratory Newsletter, which have been attached to pages inside the volume.

Carbon copy of a letter in which Dr Munro thanks Professor Allen for his letter and informs him that he has been attempting to collect together a number of comments from UK chemists stating the benefit of a UK dedicated synchrotron source. Dr Munro would be grateful if Professor Allen could also add his own comments or criticisms in regards to the use of a storage ring source for scattering experiments using polymers.

Three letters relating to the staffing arrangements at the SRF, with the SRC wishing to discuss further the request made by Professor Ashmore for ten more positions at the Facility. The final letter states the results of the discussion that Ashmore and Walker had at Daresbury, with eight new positions agreed upon.

Correspondence from R. St. J. Walker, of the Science Research Council, to Professor A. Ashmore.

The condition of the material is good.

Minutes of the sixth SRRC meeting

The plan gives a brief description of what will be covered in the introduction and in other sections, which relate to current synchrotron radiation research in the UK, design proposals for a new storage ring, and the scientific case for a devoted storage ring source.

Plan written by Dr. I. Munro for a report stating the case for a UK source dedicated to synchrotron radiation studies

The condition of the material is good.

Minutes of the seventh SRRC meeting

Carbon copy of a letter in which Dr Munro encloses a preliminary summary [not present] he has prepared for the general case for a source dedicated to synchrotron radiation studies, and hopes Professor Allen will find it interesting. Professor Allen is informed that the Daresbury Laboratory will now be conducting the feasibility study, and preparing the scientific proposals and overall case to seek funding for a detailed design study. Dr Munro hopes to arrange a meeting with Professor Allen to discuss various aspects of the source proposal further.

Report on the Anglo-Japanese "seminar" held in November 1984 at Daresbury Laboratory. Includes timetable for the various meetings and lectures held during the three-day event, and notes from these meetings. Also contains information on activities that have been undertaken between 1980 and 1985 to further closer ties between British and Japanese parties.

Correspondence received by Professor Ian Munro from the secretary of Professor G. Allen, of the Petrochemical & Polymer Laboratory, based at Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd. The letter provides Munro with directions to the Petrochemical & Polymer Laboratory, for his meeting with Allen on the 23 December.

Bundle of papers received by Ian Munro, Professor A. Ashmore, and other individuals, from the Science Research Council and fellow scientists.

Correspondence, memoranda, and accompanying papers relating to the administration of the Synchrotron Radiation Facility and the activities that took place there.

The title of the experiment is, "Lifetime Studies of Materials for use as Flourescent Probes." Papers include a form, which should be attached to an SSRL proposal, detailing title of experiment, list of collaborators and the spokesperson for the group, estimated beam time requirements, and a brief abstract of proposal. Also present is a form for financial support from the SRC to visit Stanford University to perform experiments, signed by Professor R.B. Cundall.

A proposal, written by Dr. I. Munro and G.V. Marr, to hold the first International Symposium for Synchrotron Radiation Users in the UK, at Daresbury. It includes a draft timetable for the event, which would run for three days in January 1973; and also contains a list of potential scientists to invite as speakers.

The condition of the material is good.

Correspondence, memoranda, and documents relating to the Synchrotron Raditation Facility, the establishment of the Synchrotron Radiation Source, and other matters.

Mr Egginton thanks Professor Ashmore for the draft terms of reference on the SRF, but finds them vague and easily open to misunderstandings.

Internal memorandum from A.J. Egginton to Professor A. Ashmore

Internal memorandum concerning Dr. Forty's/Dr. Fendley's correspondence on "International collaboration". Professor Munro informs Professor Ashmore of matters discussed at a meeting of the Synchrotron Radiation Facility Committee, on 26th March 1975, regarding provisions being made for the continued work of experimental programmes once NINA has closed at the end of 1977. He states that no provisions have yet been made and that the programme for a new storage ring at Daresbury has yet to be approved. There is the recommendation that until a new storage ring is constructed in the UK, experimental programmes can continue at either Orsay or Hamburg, with Orsay being the best option.

A six-page document outlining the policy regarding the employment of temporary scientific personnel for the support of user's experiments and the development of the SR research programme. The document also outlines new areas and directions that this policy could be extended in the future, and asks the Committee members to provide feedback on the policy and future recommendations. There is also an annexe listing the joint appointments at Daresbury Laboratory.
