Collection of trade literature from companies including Cunliffe & Croom, Craven Brothers and Kearns-Richards, c 1930-c 1989. The Cunliffe & Croom catalogue of machine tools dates from the 1930s, and includes descriptions of planing machines and horizontal milling machines, amongst other machine tools manufactured by the company. The Craven Brothers brochure documents the range of machine tools manufactured in the 1960s, at a time when the company had already begun to reduce its operations. The Kearns-Richards brochures date from the 1970s and 1980s and provide evidence of the type of machine tools in production in this period.

Catalogues of H W Kearns Machine Tools

The collection consists of personal papers relating to the employment of three generations of the Whitelegg family at Linotype & Machinery. It includes a staff identity card, apprenticeship certificates, production notebooks, trade union membership cards and photographs showing various departments in the company. The photographs consist of official staff photographs, informal photographs of staff on outings, official photographs of staff at work and products, and informal photographs of staff at work.

Collection of Papers relating to Employment at Linotype & Machinery Ltd

A group of eight loose photographs of the engineering bays at George Richards & Co, Broadheath, dating from the 1950s and 1960s. As well as the engineering bays, the photographs show examples of universal milling, drilling and boring machines. The images illustrate both the manufacturing process of casting and assembling parts, the final assembled products, and apprentices learning the skills necessary for the work.

A collection of deeds and plans for the purchasing and planning of the Broadheath factory along with the later workers housing. Also in the collection are a large number of contracts and agreements between Linotype and Machinery Ltd and various organisations and individuals.
