Entries are made according to serial number and information recorded includes; the order number, the name of the railway company the boiler is for, and what class of locomotive the boiler is for (there is rarely anything recorded relating to this). The volume covers serial numbers 1-665 and order numbers 3191-319612.

Nine loose papers including lists of draughtsmen's wages and their names; a list of apprentices dated May 1866; documents detailing the number of men employed by the company for the years 1866-1868 and 1870; and a list of men employed in the Coppersmith Shop dated May 1870.

Items range from page layouts to various drafts and an incomplete revision of the history by Harold Holden, which was compiled after the closure of the company.

Paste-up of pages 119 to 124 and also the appendix. These pages include copies of photographs for locomotives; photocopies of extracts from Ralph Peacock's diary; a letter received by Peacock from the Locomotive Manufacturers Association; and drawings of American locomotives.

Incomplete paste-up

Two copies of pages 16 and 17 from the first chapter, "Formative Years." One copy contains a drawing of a locomotive and its carriages travelling through a rural location, with a town in the background. This drawing has been annotated and signed. There are also layouts for pages 100 and 101, which contain photographs of a locomotive, and a group shot of staff members that formed the company's Rescue Detachment Team during the Second World War.
