Acquatint, hand coloured, Excavation of Olive Mount, 4 miles from Liverpool, drawn by Thomas Talbot Bury and engraved by H Pyall, 1831. Depicts the construction of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway at Edge Hill. A locomotive hauls a train of wagons filled with spoil on a steep sided cutting, as a train on the opposite track recedes into the distance. High above navvies hack at the rock with pickaxes. This version shows a steam locomotive in the tunnel between Edge Hill and Wapping in Liverpool. This was innaccurate, as legally trains had to be hauled by cable in the tunnel, and was altered in a later version.

This is a later version of the print, as the first version showed a steam locomotive operating in the tunnel between Edge Hill and Wapping in Liverpool, which was innaccurate, and contravened the Act which authorised the railway.
