Copper oxygen piping, 10cm diameter, used to bring oxygen into the NHS Nightingale North West temporary hospital. Manufactured by BOC. Two pipes of this diameter ran down the length of the hospital bringing oxygen into the building from the oxygen tanks outside. Then further piping branched off to provide oxygen to each ward and each bed. In total 7.24km of medical gas pipe was used in NHS Nightingale NW. NHS Nightingale NW was set up in the Manchester Central Convention Centre in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide additional hospital bed space to reduce strain on permanent NHS hospitals.
