Painting. Cleveland Potash Mine, Boulby, by Len Tabner, November 1983. Mixed media: pastel, graphite, charcoal and watercolour, [sight size] 71x95.5cm mounted in frame, 106x131.5x3.5cm. - Scene looking inside the mine (the only potash and deepest mine in Britain at c4000 feet, opened 1973). - Inscribed br: Man-saving gate, 5-1 belt; near belt end - just before 60" belt. control room down on left. Side walls and roof area girder reinforced. - Artist visited mine many times during 1982-1985 and worked some 500 pictures in difficult conditions lit only by lamps on miners' helmets
