Lift cage from 10 Marsden Street, Manchester. Hydraulically operated, two stage wire system, pullies at the end of hydraulic cylinder and at the end of the ram, with the wire wound round to multiply the lift. These first wires pulled on the lift counter balance weight to further increase the amount the lift would travel. No doors or safety bar on lift. Gates on each floor held shut by a catch so they could be opened at any time whether the lift was there or not. A rope running over pullies in the lift ceiling and at the bottom operated the hydraulic valves. The rope ran through the lift cage, but could be reached by anyone on any floor by leaning over the landing railings. Date made, probably about 1890, presented by The London Assurance Group.
